E03 – How a Small House Can Lead to a Big Life
Seniors often live in only 500 to 600 square feet of their existing homes and many want a smaller version of their home with privacy and yard, along with lower cost, utilities, taxes, and maintenance. But that ideal isn’t readily available. The Jacob’s Well Cottage Court development is changing this scenario and fulfilling an unmet need. The design consists of 10 to 12 detached small houses on individual lots facing three sides of a shared court, which enhances walkability and social interaction. Construction will employ ecofriendly, energy-efficient processes and low-maintenance design and materials. The development reflects the demand for sensible and affordable housing environments and is a model for replication around the country.
