E10 – Fixer-upper: Transforming an Existing Space into a Successful Memory Care Environment

Brookdale Senior Living’s Atrium Way, located in Jacksonville, Fla., is a continuum of care community that had a need for a new memory care environment that supports Brookdale’s person-centered programming and activities. The project required the renovation of an existing, underutilized resident wing into an environment that offers residents opportunities for meaningful moments throughout the progression of dementia. This presentation will discuss how existing spaces, not intended for memory care, can be successfully transformed into engaged, resident-focused memory care environments. Explore the project goals and challenges, design techniques and decisions, and important reconfiguration considerations. Come hear their story and important lessons learned.
