E15 – Canada’s First Dementia Village: Bringing “Everyday” into the Care Environment

Canada’s first dementia village, The Village Langley, has attracted interest from people throughout North America and abroad. This session will highlight how this innovative village model enhances the well-being of people living with dementia, the teams supporting them, and the neighboring community. Learn about a new form of dementia care that promotes autonomy and brings the rituals and activities of the everyday into the care environment. Based on four primary pillars (purpose, place, people and practice), presenters will show how the design, implementation, and interaction of each pillar is fundamental to creating a designed space and community where “every day is a good day for everyone.”
