E25 – Light and Spectral Exposure: A Day in the Life of a Care Center Resident

Lighting affects all of us physiologically, and nowhere is this more critical than in facilities where residents have limited access to the outdoors in their daily activities. There are ways to help improve the quality of life for these individuals, using intentional access to the outdoors and electric lighting changes over the 24-hour day that more closely mimic daily light modulation. Research using a cross-over study of lighting conditions is showing promising results. This presentation by a care center director, a specialist in design for the aging eye, and a lighting researcher addressing human health and well-being, will combine practice and experience in this new area.
