E30 – Homes for Active Aging: What Older Adults Think About Technology-based Home Design Strategies

Health-related building standards, such as the WELL Building Standard, align with design strategies and technologies that support physical activity and reduce sedentariness. One approach to promoting physical activity and less sedentary behavior is through the promotion of “active living,” defined as integrating any form of physical activity into daily routines. In this session, attendees will learn about various low-, medium, and high-tech design features, of varying cost ranges, that can be integrated into senior residential environments. They’ll also hear about older adults’ attitudes and intentions to use these design products. Implications for the architecture and design community will also be highlighted.
