SUMMARY:E02 &#8211\; Designing a Roadmap to Results: Enriching Residents Lives through Renovation
DESCRIPTION:The Quadrangle is a unique community\, founded in 1989 by Haverford College alumni on the grounds of a historic manor house. The community's culture is deeply rooted in Quaker values\, integrity\, simplicity\, and community. The Quakers have a long history of participation and consensus. The Quadrangle thrives under the leadership of an involved and dedicated Resident Association. Sharing feedback from residents\, operations\, ownership\, and showing examples of design evolution\, we will illustrate how roadblocks were turned into opportunities to build trust. Highlights will include how the community's unique sense of place was recognized as a differentiator to be enhanced. Valuable insights questions that should have been asked sooner\, operational flexibility\, resident involvement\, and the constraints of tight timelines\, an existing structure\, and local zoning authorities will be addressed. We will share how specific design improvements\; new amenities\, open flexible spaces\, natural light\, faux lighting\, biophilic design\, and landscape upgrades generated excitement\, improved resident wellbeing\, and overcame resistance to change. Concluding with important resident feedback and post project outcomes\, both measurable successes and lessons learned in areas such as environmental health\, resident safety\, and social interaction\, attendees will learn from the projects success and our challenges along the way.
