This session examines how the aging brain and visual system interact with interior design decisions to influence safety, independence, and quality of life. Moving beyond aesthetics and baseline accessibility, it positions environmental design as a non-pharmacological strategy, with a focus on flooring as a high-impact yet often-overlooked finish that affects visual perception, mobility, cognition, and resident safety through material selection and specification.
